NATURE WATCHING STATION
2017
Plywood, Basswood, String, Wire
1' 1" x 1' 5.5" x 2'
I was challenged to devise a nature watching station where visitors can perform research in close proximity to bird species native to Ithaca. Supported by tension wires, this hanging space is modeled after a bird’s nest. As is the case in this design precedent, feeding takes place in the center, where visitors can deposit birdseed in troughs. No angle limits observation due to windows lining the rotunda, and adjustable slats lie underneath, permitting natural cooling.
